Other than Ram Charan’s Peddi, which is slated for June 2026, there’s no big star in the fray at the Summer 2026 Telugu box office. There’s no other big Telugu release confirmed for now, other than Swayambhu, which is yet to lock the dates. On May 1st, films like Gayapadda Simham and Jetlee are coming, but that’s not enough to boost the box office. Finding this gap useful, the summer that isn’t owned by Tollywood is being filled by imports, aka dubbed movies.

Runaway Malayalam blockbuster, the small-budgeted Vaazha 2, is hitting Telugu screens today with the same title. Directed by Amal K. Joby, with a relatively fresh cast, it’s aiming for urban audiences who are already tuned into Malayalam content. Next week gets crowded as Dhanush’s Tamil film Kara is expected to arrive on April 30th. Then you have Patriot, featuring Mammootty and Mohanlal, targeting a May 1st release along with original Telugu movies. Both these movies come with strong face value and a loyal Telugu dubbing audience.

Adding more traffic the May 1st date, Sai Pallavi’s Hindi debut Ek Din, which is planned for a Telugu release with the title Oka Roju, is releasing around the same time. Directed by a new-age Hindi filmmaker, this one banks more on her pull than the film’s scale. Now, don’t forget the heightened love for Sanatana and Hindutva, as the film “Raja Shivaji” featuring Ritesh Deshmukh is banking on this angle, and hitting cinemas India wide in 5 languages, including Telugu, on May 1st itself.

With star Telugu films missing from the summer, theatres need content. And dubbing films are stepping in to fill that gap. Lower risk, decent returns, and quicker turnaround is what many distributors believe in. Some of these films are being released by top Telugu production houses only. There was a time when dubbing films were core revenue drivers in Telugu. Especially during the Suriya and Karthi phase. Their films used to open big, run strong, and even compete with straight Telugu releases. That sheen faded over time. Will this Summer revive such dubbed hopes again? Let’s see.
