L2E Empuraan Controversy: What’s Happening In Parliament?

Very rarely do we see films, creating a political discourse and becoming a topic of discussion in the Parliament itself. However, in the case of Empuraan and this is turning out to be the reality as this film has created such a big disco that it has related to several discussions on social media and also in the Parliament itself.

Earlier in the day, MP from Kerala and also an actor himself, Suresh Gopi commented that Empuraan drove a vested narrative. The hidden implication here was that the film carried a strong anti-Hindu narrative and propagated Muslim hierarchy mechanism.

About the re censor of the film, Suresh Gopi said that there was no pressure on the makers to re-edit the film, but they did it at their own capacity in order to avoid further complications. He clearly stated that the government did not place any emphasis on re-editing this film.

However, on the other hand, Congress Vatakara MP Shafi Parambil stated Superstar Mohanlal is being forced to write an apology after his family was targeted. The attacks on the film L2: Empuraan raise concerns about freedom of expression in a democratic society.

It is evident that the Kerala government and the central government have different interests and opinions about this film and the kind of controversy that it has created.

One of the principal complaints against this film is that there are certain scenes which depict Muslim supremacy and show Hindu riots in a negative manner. This is the reason why this film is causing several debates, even on the national circuit with public representatives, taking sides.
