Film Reviews To Be Banned: Is It Really Happening!

For a long time, now, film reviews have been a part and parcel of the film industry. However, it has become a popular tradition for film producers and directors to blame film reviews for the loss of revenues.

In this connection, the Madras film producers council - Tamil Film Active Producers Association has approached the High Court to impose a ban on film reviews. They proposed that film reviews should be halted for at least three days after a new film’s, theatrical release.

The council noted that film reviews on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, along with the conventional film related websites must be halted for at least three days from the day of a new film release

This case came to a hearing at the Madras High Court today, and it was heard by the judge bench. However, this makes for an odd hearing for the producers council as the court rejected the plea to impose a ban on film reviews.

The court stated that there is no credence in the argument that film reviews are detrimental to the film industry in any way, and an imposition of ban doesn’t make constitutional sense.

If anything, this strange proposal by the producers, council has resulted in immense social media backlash as people opine that this is a suppression of freedom of speech.
