Recently Ram Charan scored a disaster with Game Changer directed by Shankar.Director Shankar is one of the most popular filmmakers in Indian cinema who is known for making big-budget films with grand visuals. However, after the mixed response to his recent movies, Indian 2 and Game Changer, reports suggest that his next dream project Velpari may finally move forward but with strict financial discipline. With this, many are commenting that the director is back to ground reality.

Velpari struggled to find producers because of its massive scale and historical setting. Now, industry reports say that Pen Media is expected to back the project. Meanwhile they want to avoid budget overruns that affected Shankar’s previous films.

Also it is being reported that Shankar has been asked to submit a clear plan before shooting begins. This includes the exact budget, shooting schedule and number of days required for filming. The production team reportedly wants everything documented so that the project stays under control from start to finish. Because of this, Shankar has started early pre-production work and detailed planning. Also director who spent crores for songs said to understand latest trends and is concentrating more on script and not song sets.

Velpari is based on the Tamil novel Veera Yuga Nayagan Vel Pari written by Su Venkatesan. The story revolves around Vel Paari, a brave tribal king, and how the powerful Chera, Chola and Pandya kingdoms tried to defeat him. The film is expected to focus on bravery, betrayal and ancient political struggles.

Shankar’s last release, Game Changer, starred Ram Charan in dual roles and was released during Sankranti 2025. It bagged disaster collections. Earlier, Shankar had also announced Indian 3 which is a sequel to Indian 2 but there has been no clear update on its release so far.
