Anand Deverakonda scored a sensational hit with 'Baby' last year. His performance was appreciated by many. Now, he has arrived with a crime comedy titled 'Gam Gam Ganesha'. The trailer and songs were quite impressive. Let us see if the movie is as impressive and thrilling as the trailer or not.

Story:

Ganesh (Anand Deverakonda) is an orphan. He and his friend get on in life by stealing things. The girl he loves gets ready to marry a rich and settled man. Ganesh decides to earn a lot of money before the marriage and show her. He agrees a deal to rob a costly diamond necklace from a jewellery shop. He decides to take the diamond chain and sell it himself in order to become super rich. Ganesh and his friend go through a lot of obstacles in their journey. What are those problems? How will Ganesh overtake them and all of these questions will be answered in the movie.

Analysis:

Crime comedy is a genre that is liked mostly by the youth. It is filled with thrills, twists, good comedy and other elements that attract the younger set of public. A lot of young directors try to impress the audience with this genre. Despite the lack of new story, people will watch the story narrated from Hindi or English film if the screenplay is engaging enough. There are only a few directors who used this genre and gained constant success. Ram Gopal Varma gave a super hit like 'Ksha Kshanam' in the 90s and Sudheer Varma arrived with 'Swamy Ra Ra' in 2012 or 2013. Looking at Nikhil's film success, a lot of crime comedies arrived in Tollywood but not many of them succeeded. 'Gam Gam Ganesha' too follows the 'Swamy Ra Ra' template but couldn't repeat the same magic.

The main reason to find similarities between both the movies is the Ganesh idol. This film revolves around the same object and hero & his friend are small-time thieves who end up in a major deal. The fight among various gangs or that Ganesh idol, the twists and turns are also similar. But a lot of makers commit the mistake of keeping silly scenes in the name of comedy. They forget the intensity make spoils the flow. The characters need to be serious and the confusion between them should lead to natural fun. The makers of 'Gam Gam Ganesha' tried to force unnecessary comedy in many places. The audience need to feel the seriousness of the crime but such a costly idol is seen coming quite directly. The intensity goes completely missing and the fight between the gangs too appear very silly.

The logic completely goes for a toss as the entire second half revolves around all the gangs fighting for the idol in the village. The scenes get repetitive after a point and test your patience. A few comedy scenes work out here and there. Though they don't have any connection with the story, they make you laugh. Vennela Kishore's comedy as a crazy doctor is a big relief though he drops out of nowhere every time. There are a few twists that genuinely surprise you as well. But the wavered screenplay right from the start to end doesn't let you get impressed. The two love tracks are not worth mentioning and the hero's character too lacks clarity. A few twists in the second half try to engage you but the rest is quite boring. 'Gam Gam Ganesha' is a regular crime comedy that offers nothing unique. Apart from a few laughs, it disappoints you in many places.

Performances:

Anand impressed everyone in 'Baby'. But any actor can excel if he gets a good role. With his character in 'Gam Gam Ganesha' appearing so weak, the weaknesses of the youngster were exposed once again. Anand couldn't outperform his flaws this time. 'Pedha Kapu' fame Pragati Srinivastava impresses as the heroine. She fits the role of a village girl quite well. Nayan Sarika doesn't have anything to perform. Her role was not etched well too. Raj Arjun is okay as the villain. Emmanuel as the hero's friend provides a few funny scenes. Vennela Kishore's comedy is a huge relief. Prince and Yawar were decent and Satyam Rajesh did well in his limited screen time.

Technicians:

'Gam Gam Ganesha' is okay on the technical front. Chetan Bharadwaj's music is fine. The songs are decent while the background score suited the crime comedy genre. Aditya's cinematography is okay. The production values are adequate. Uday Bommisetty managed to mix a lot of crime comedies and convert it into one. The heavy influence of 'Swamy Ra Ra' made sure that there is no originality. Though a few comedy scenes and twists are good, the director failed to leave a mark.

Verdict: 'Gam Gam Ganesha' – Doesn't Impress You!

Rating: 2.25/5
