The Tollywood summer started with a bang thanks to Tillu Square which turned out to be a big success. However things quickly went downhill. The rest of April and May look dry for the box office unless a new hit comes along.

In early April, hopes were high for Vijay Devarakonda's Family Star. People expected it to be the big summer opener but the film failed to impress audiences. Next up was Kona Venkat's Geethanjali Malli Vachindi but this movie also didn't click with viewers. Even dubbed movies like Manjummel Boys and DeAr couldn't satisfy the entertainment needs of the Telugu audience. Many other films went unnoticed.

Looking into May 2024, there has been no big films scheduled for release in first three week. Movies like Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD and Devara have been postponed. The first two weeks of May were dominated by election fever with no major film releases until after the polling day on May 13th. Additionally many filmmakers feared releasing their movies during the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. With elections and the IPL now over Tollywood fans are eagerly waiting for a good movie to watch.

In this time of anticipation, Vishwak Sen's Gangs of Godavari seems to be a beacon of hope. The film is set to release this Friday and it has already received positive feedback from the censor board. The trailer and promotional content have promised an emotional and engaging story. Audiences are excited and hopeful about this mass entertainer. Ticket sales on platforms like BookMyShow have been strong with many fans booking their seats within minutes. There is a lot of buzz, and it looks like Gangs of Godavari has the potential to perform very well at the box office.

Let's wait and see if Gangs of Godavari can bring the magic back to Tollywood this summer.
