People who watched Trivikram and Mahesh's previous films like 'Athadu' and 'Khaleja' were highly disappointed with the stale content in the film. Many termed that Trivikram's complacent writing worked against the film. The lack of a strong story and emotional connectivity too were pointed out. Many said that Trivikram mark dialogues were also missing in this movie.
Thanks to Mahesh's energetic avatar and sarcastic one-liners throughout, the movie managed to get decent collections. The family entertainer ended up on Netflix on 9th February and it was made available in multiple languages like Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam. Even after two weeks, the movie is still trending on Netflix. Both the Telugu and Hindi versions of the film have found a place in the Top 10 trending movies list.
We are in the fifth week of its Netflix release now and 'Guntur Karam' is still seen in the list of Top 10 movies in Indian region despite new movies like 'Anweshippin Kandethum' and 'Merry Christmas' and a few Hollywood flicks arriving on the platform. Interestingly, it is not just getting a huge reception in India but it is still in Netflix's Top 10 list even in Bangladesh and Pakistan too. We are talking about five weeks after it came out on Netflix as well. Movies like '12th Fail', 'Damsel' and 'Dunki' too were seen in this list.
Unlike the Telugu audience, people across North India, Pakistan and Bangladesh watched the movie already in theatres and they don't have any huge expectations which is one of the reasons why it is getting a lot of love. Also, the huge popularity of the 'Kurchini Madathapetti' song too helped the movie's viewership along with the superstar's craze. This proves that 'Guntur Karam' is not that bad but it is something that the Telugu audience did not expect from such a classic combo.
