Bollywood Did Not Support this Recent Superhit Film

Hanuman Ansh has become an unexpected success at the box office after starting its theatrical journey on a slow note. The film, which is based on devotion to Lord Hanuman and the spiritual journey of Neem Karoli Baba, has received a strong response from audiences. However, director Vishal Chaturvedi says the film did not get much support from the Hindi film industry when it needed it the most.

According to Vishal, the film faced a major problem with the number of shows in theatres. He said that the movie initially had around 250 shows, but the number was later reduced to only 25 because theatres had other big releases to accommodate.

"People drove this film. Theatres with big films scheduled to release chopped our screen count. From 250, our show count came down to 25. Multiplexes like PVR and Cinepolis in prime locations were skeptical about running our shows," Vishal said during an interview on The Raunac Podcast.

The director also spoke about the people from the film industry who later congratulated him after the movie started performing well. He said that some of them had not helped him when he had approached them before the release.

"After the film started to do well, several people called me to congratulate me. I don’t want to name them," he said.

Vishal also mentioned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who congratulated him even though the director had never asked him for help. Vishal said he did not want to name some other people because he had earlier approached them for support.

The filmmaker was also critical of the way people in the industry give advice about movies. "People mostly don’t know what is going to work, but yet they pass on their gyaan to others. The industry is filled with confused people," he said.

According to Vishal, there are people who genuinely love filmmaking, while others enter the field without the same passion.

Hanuman Ansh reportedly had a very small budget of around Rs 1.75 crore to Rs 2 crore. It opened with about Rs 10 lakh on its first day. However, the film slowly gained attention and started attracting more viewers after two weeks.

By Day 25, the film had reportedly earned around Rs 45.28 crore net and Rs 53.43 crore gross in India. Its success has turned it into a surprise hit.

The film tells a story connected with Neem Karoli Baba, a spiritual teacher and devotee of Lord Hanuman. The unexpected success of Hanuman Ansh has now shown how audience support can change the journey of a small film.
