While some praised the scale, others compared it to video game visuals. At a time when some are criticising Adipurush for being a mediocre film, unlike Ramayana, some are taking a dig at Ramayana VFX and how they have used AI to generate visuals, and are inspired by various Hollywood movies rather than being original.
Now, Bollywood’s Superstar Hrithik Roshan has stepped in with his take. He appreciated filmmakers who attempt large-scale visual storytelling, saying they take huge risks in terms of money, time and effort just to give audiences a new experience. At the same time, he brought up examples like Baahubali and Kalki 2898 AD, along with his father Rakesh Roshan’s films like Krrish. His point is simple. These films exist because someone dared to try something new. Now this is where it gets interesting. Should such films be judged too quickly based on early visuals?
In recent years, we have seen how VFX-heavy films face instant scrutiny after the teaser arrives. Even before release, opinions get locked. At the same time, many of these films undergo massive improvements by the time they hit theatres. On one side, audience expectations are higher than ever, especially for a film mounted on a reported ₹4000 crore scale. On the other hand, as Hrithik says, thousands of artists spend years building these worlds, and that effort also needs some understanding. Well, both are right in their own ways.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sunny Deol and Sai Pallavi, and is planned as a two-part release starting Diwali 2026.
