Ilaiyaraaja has once again won a major copyright case, marking another powerful moment in his ongoing fight to protect his creative work.
The Madras High Court ordered the makers of the Diwali release Dude to remove two songs from the film. These songs are Karutha Machan from Pudhu Nell Pudhu Naathu and Nooru Varusham Indha Maappillaum from Panakkaran.
The court found clear evidence that the film used and altered these songs without Ilaiyaraaja’s permission. This kind of unauthorised use can damage the originality and purity of the composer’s work.
This ruling comes only a few months after Ilaiyaraaja won a similar case involving the film Good Bad Ugly. Together these victories strongly reinforce his stand that music composers must be contacted directly for permission whenever their creations are reused in any form.
The court also made it clear that getting approval only from music labels is not enough. Producers and filmmakers may now have to seek direct consent from the original composers before using older songs. This judgment sets an important direction for the film industry and strengthens the rights of artists who create timeless music.
