Ilaiyaraaja's daughter, Bhavatharini Raja, a renowned playback singer, passed away on January 25 in Sri Lanka after battling liver cancer. Known for her soulful voice, the 46-year-old singer had sought treatment in Srilanka but died at around at 5 pm today. Her body is expected to be brought back to Chennai on January 26 for the final rites.

Bhavatharini started her music career with the song in the film Raasaiya, which became a chartbuster. She went on to become a prominent figure in the industry, lending her voice to numerous albums composed by her father and brothers. In 2001, she won the National Award for her song in the movie Bharathi.

Besides her singing career, Bhavatharini ventured into music direction, composing for films like Mitr, My Friend, and contributing to the soundtrack of Phir Milenge. She showcased her versatility in 2012 by scoring tunes for the village-based project Vellachi.

In her personal life, Bhavatharini was married to R. Sabariraj, an advertising executive. She pursued her education at Rosary Matric School in Chennai.

Her untimely demise has left a void in the music industry, and she will be remembered for her exceptional contributions to Indian music.
