Finally, IMAX Coming To Hyderabad?

Hyderabad is one of the cultural destinations for South Indian cinema, and this has been the case for several years now. But the problem has been with the fact that the Hyderabad city never had access to IMAX cinema projection.

Hyderabad movie lovers have been eagerly waiting for the return of the IMAX experience for several years. Recently, the visit of IMAX Corporation’s Vice President Preetham Daniel once again sparked discussions about whether the iconic large format screen could make a comeback in the city.

Hyderabad once had the only IMAX theatre in the Telugu states at Prasads Multiplex, which was a major attraction for film enthusiasts.

However, the IMAX format was discontinued there after the agreement with the company ended, leaving the city without a dedicated IMAX screen for more than a decade.

Over the years, several rumours have surfaced about IMAX returning to Hyderabad. Asian Cinemas head Suniel Narang had earlier announced plans to bring an IMAX screen to the city, possibly at a new multiplex in Hakimpet. The proposal created excitement among audiences who hoped the premium format would finally return.

However, Preetham Daniel clarified that there is currently no official agreement between IMAX and Asian Cinemas regarding a new theatre in Hyderabad. He stated that IMAX is in discussions with multiple exhibitors but no deal has been finalized yet.

Despite the uncertainty, Daniel’s visit has once again fueled hope among cinema fans. With Hyderabad being one of India’s biggest film markets, audiences are optimistic that the IMAX experience could eventually return to the city in the coming years.
