Actor Imran Khan has reportedly been asked to leave India by October 28 following his participation in a protest in Mumbai. The Mumbai Police issued a notice to the actor, who is the nephew of Bollywood star Aamir Khan. The development has attracted attention because of his citizenship status and participation in the protest.

According to reports, Imran Khan holds US citizenship and has an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. He is not an Indian citizen. The police reportedly took action over his participation in the protest, citing the rules applicable to foreign nationals living in India.

The notice was issued under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Section 7 of the Act gives the Central Government powers to regulate the entry, stay and movement of foreign nationals in the country.

The incident took place on October 10 at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. Imran Khan participated in a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical political group. The protest was held against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The actor was joined by his partner, actress Lekha Washington, and his cousin Zayne Marie Khan. Police detained all three during the protest. They were released later.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had earlier approached the Mumbai Police over the actor's participation. He alleged that Imran Khan had taken part in an illegal political protest and questioned whether his actions followed the rules linked to his OCI status and visa conditions.

After his detention, Imran Khan shared a picture of himself inside a police van on social media. He added the caption, "Apparently I'm going for a drive".

Videos from the incident also went viral on social media. In one video, the actor was heard saying "Jai Hind" to the police. He also said that he did not know why he had been taken into custody.

Speaking to the media, Imran Khan explained that he had attended the protest as a resident of Mumbai. He said he wanted to understand why people's freedom of movement was being restricted and why their voices were being suppressed.

Reports said that around 400 people were detained during the protest, including activists and members of different organisations.

The police notice has now put the actor in the spotlight. The October 28 deadline is the key date in the matter, while questions about his OCI status and the legal action against him are likely to draw further attention.
