In what could be considered an extremely unexpected and interesting turn of events, the government of India has reportedly banned 5 OTT platforms for streaming obscene content.

The Indian government has blocked five OTT platforms for streaming obscene and vulgar content. The action was taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting after officials found that these platforms were violating Indian digital content rules.

The blocked platforms are MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu. According to officials, these platforms were hosting and streaming content that was considered pornographic and against public decency standards. The government said such content breaks Indian laws and online safety guidelines.

The decision was made under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology Rules, 2021. These laws give the government the authority to take action against digital platforms that publish illegal or harmful content.

Internet service providers across India have been instructed to block access to these websites and apps. Users trying to open these platforms may no longer be able to access them.

Officials said the move is part of a larger effort to regulate online streaming services and ensure that digital platforms follow Indian laws. The government has been increasing its focus on monitoring OTT platforms to prevent the spread of obscene and inappropriate material online.
