By: Tupaki Desk | 6 July 2025 3:00 PM ISTWe are done with the first half of 2025 and have entered the second half officially. If we look at the first six months, a total of 856 films were released in India, earning a cumulative collection of more than Rs. 5360 crores at the box office. This is higher than the collections of 2024's first six months (Rs. 5260 crore).
Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava remains the top-grossing Indian film of this year with lifetime theatrical earnings of more than Rs. 800 crores. Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran's L2E: Empuraan is in the second place, and Venkatesh's Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is in third place with collections of more than Rs. 300 crores respectively.
Films like Housefull 5, Thudarum, Raid 2, Sitaare Zameen Par, and Good Bad Ugly are on the list too. Biggies like Game Changer and Sikandar got openings but failed to be successful at the box office.
We have a series of big films to release in the second half of 2025, including War 2, Coolie, OG, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, Kingdom, Mirai, Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar and Prabhas's The Raja Saab to hit the screens. So, trade analysts are expecting the collections to be higher in this second half than in the first half.
