Coming to the OTT side of things, it is known that the OTT rights of the first part where with Amazon prime video. The first part was a raging sensation on OTT and it fetched humongous views for prime video.
However, despite the tremendous success of the first part for some odd reason, Amazon prime video decided not to retain the franchise as it let go of the deal to have the post theatrical streaming rights of the second part.
Netflix was quick to pounds on the opportunity as they bagged the post theatrical OTT streaming rights of Pushpa 2. This could very well be a masterstroke from Netflix and a sucker punch to Amazon prime.
While the first part was just a 400 crore grocer at the box office, the second part is likely to be 1000 crore grosser. In terms of face value, global market and mass penetration, the second part is miles ahead of the maiden part.
At this rate, Netflix appears to have an absolute banker of a film in Pushpa 2. The OTT giant might be fetching international hype and attention through the second part of Pushpa as it has the advantage of an established character, premise, and setting.
Whenever the second part arrives on Netflix, it is sure to rewrite the viewership records and related stuff. Dee box office hype will certainly transcend into the OTT prospect of Pushpa two, and this essentially confirms that Netflix has an absolute winner in this Allu Arjun film.
The simple logic behind this deal could very well be that Netflix offered a substantially higher amount of money than Amazon prime for the second part of Pushpa. But one would have expected Amazon to go all out to retain the OTT rights, considering the kind of reach they got through the first part, but that simply wasn’t to be.
