By: Tupaki Desk | 4 Aug 2026 8:58 PM ISTSouth Indian cinema recently witnessed a new big film recently in the form of Jana Nayagan featuring Tamil star Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. This film was supposed to release during the Pongal festival earlier this year but it got postponed due to various reasons.
Finally, this film released in the third week of July, and this is precisely after Vijay became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and his image reached new Heights.
However, even the chief minister hype for Vijay could not save this film as it was outrightly rejected by the wider section of the audience. The kind of content that was on display with this film was not sufficient enough to bring the audience to theatres in big numbers.
Lack of contribution from Director Vinod has resulted in a complete waste of the efforts that were put up by Vijay, who happens to be the chief minister of Tamil Nadu now.
Subsequently, a film that should have been such a big money winner at the ticket counters with the presence of chief minister, Vijay has turned out to be a very average affair.
This film has reportedly collected in the vicinity of ₹300 crore gross globally. This is operating decent number for a film of its own capacity, but considering the CM hype for Vijay, it should have been considerably more.
The fundamental factor here is that the content that was generated by Director Vinod was not sustainable enough for the film to go on a big run at the global ticket counters.
Every single rupee that the film had been able to generate is entirely from the market reach of Vijay and there is no second thought about the same.
