After reserving the verdict for a day, once again the Madras High Court heard both sides, Jana Nayagan team and CBFC’s counsel, on Wednesday morning, but things surely didn’t go well for the makers of Vijay’s last ever flick. Hearing the arguments of both sides, the High Court postponed its verdict by 20 days, leaving the Jana Nayagan team in shock.

Saying that financial investments are not grounds to seek relief, the Madras High Court has postponed the verdict on the Jana Nayagan case by 20 days. This time, they have asked CBFC how much time they would take for re-censoring the film, and CBFC claimed that they need 20 days more days. So, for almost another month or so, there’s no release of Jana Nayagan at the Box Office, unless CBFC censors it, and the Court finally hears the final lines.

The Division Bench of the Madras HC felt that the single judge who had earlier directed CBFC to give a U/A certificate to the film had failed to examine the case properly. When the Court asked why the Jana Nayagan team announced the release date without obtaining a Censor Certificate, the Jana Nayagan makers stated that films like Dhurandhar 2, which are ready for release in March, have announced dates without obtaining a Censor Certificate. However, the Court didn’t find the argument convincing.

Jana Nayagan was supposed to be released on January 9th, and with CBFC delaying the Censor Certificate, the makers approached the local court, then the Supreme Court, and finally SC didn’t entertain their plea but redirected it to the Madras High Court divisional bench.
