Jana Nayagan: No, Election Code Is Not Yet Over

85% polling and Record turnout, that’s how Tamil Nadu elections got wrapped up the other day (April 23), but somehow, this film is still not part of the conversation. Many believe this kind of voting momentum, especially youth participation, has a lot to do with Vijay stepping into politics. Whether that’s fully true or not will be clear only on May 4th, when the results are out, but then, when will “Jana Nayagan” come out is the big question now.

Even before the elections, the film was stuck with censorship issues, and there is no clearance. However, many felt that, as the primary accusation is regarding the political content inside the movie, it may not be allowed to be released until the election is over. Then came the bigger shock. A full HD print, with proper DI and sound mix, got leaked online. Yes, arrests were made regarding the leakage, but the damage was done. For fans who wanted to watch Vijay’s “final film” in theatres, this hit hard. The emotional connection took a blow.

Now that the elections are done, fans are expecting a quick release. But it’s not that simple either. The election code is still in effect until the results are announced. Any political content, direct or indirect, can become sensitive. Even a line in the film can create problems. So, technically, the team of Jana Nayagan should wait till the elections are over to put this film in cinemas.

Whether Vijay wins or loses, Jana Nayagan is likely to get massive attention with either of these scenarios when it hits cinemas. But the release is not anytime soon, at least for a couple of weeks more.
