Unlike his earlier films, this movie is based in real cities like Mumbai and Kolkata. However, Neel explained that the world still feels dark and dystopian because powerful gang leaders control everything.
The director in a recent interview said that the story is connected to the opium and heroin trade that existed during British rule and continued even after independence.
He said the movie is not fantasy but a realistic attempt to show how cities can become dangerous when criminals gain power over society.
Prashanth Neel compared such cities to historical versions of London and New York, where gangsters once controlled major activities. He said Dragon tries to show a similar atmosphere in Indian cities during that period.
The teaser also includes the powerful dialogue, “The only soil worth remembering is the one soaked in blood.”
Interestingly, Neel revealed that this line was actually written by his wife nearly five years ago while discussing the film.
He explained that the dialogue marks the idea that people mostly remember major wars and large historical conflicts rather than smaller events.
Fans are now highly curious about the historical backdrop and layered storytelling in Dragon. Many believe this could become Prashanth Neel’s most realistic and emotionally deep film till now.
