Kaantha Flops In Theatres, Tops OTT Charts Nationwide

When a stunning performer like Dulquer Salman is coming up with a vintage film, surely there are a lot of expectations owing to the success of his previous movies like Mahanati and Seetharamam. However, the recently released Kaantha has failed to live up to that expectation. These days, the failure of a film at the box office isn’t a failure at all, because some are getting embraced when released on OTT platforms.

While the story of the film Kaantha starts off as a feud between a director and actor, played by Samuthirakani and Dulquer, the film suddenly shifts genre post the interval. The ego-clash story turns into an investigation drama post the interval, and that shift in narrative shocked the audience in theatres. But on OTT, it looks like they are enjoying it after the film started to stream last week on Netflix. Beating the likes of Rashmika Mandanna’s The Girlfriend, Kaantha has topped the charts on Netflix, and the film is being watched in many countries at the top spot as we speak.

These days, many films have seen such an amazing reception on OTT, while they have failed big time at the theatres. On the contrary, some films that clicked big time in theatres have flopped on OTT, with the watch time being very low, and also getting criticised on social media after OTT streaming. The likes of Dude, The Girlfriend, and Coolie are some examples.
