Disaster Tale: Thug Life Leaves Everyone In Loss!

It is already known that Kamal Haasan and Maniratnam came together for Thug Life which happened to be one of the most promising Tamil films in recent times. However, the film turned out to be an epic disaster at the box office, and it absolutely shattered right from day one.

Incidentally, Thug Life, released on 5th June 2025, had a strong opening with ₹15.5 crore net in India ₹13.35 crore from Tamil, ₹1.5 crore from Telugu, and ₹0.65 crore from Hindi. However, on Day 2, collections dropped sharply by 55%, earning only ₹7.5 crore. The film’s total collection in two days stood at ₹23 crore.

Over the next few days, daily earnings fell to around ₹6–7 crore. By the end of its opening weekend, the total collection reached nearly ₹36.9 crore. On Day 6, the film had earned just over ₹40 crore across all languages, failing to cross ₹50 crore.

In Telugu states, the movie made only ₹2 crore share, leading to huge losses for distributors. It was not released in Kannada due to an earlier language controversy. With poor audience response and falling collections, Thug Life has now been declared a box office disaster.

Subsequently, the makers have decided to scrap the Netflix deal that was in effect earlier as they kept eight weeks OTT window. This has been cut short now, and the film is going to release on Netflix in just four weeks time.
