Kantara Chapter 1 Becomes Highest Grossing Film of 2025 in First Week

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has taken the box office by storm by becoming the top grossing film worldwide in its opening week.

Kantara Chapter 1 has created a massive record in its first week. The film collected ₹457.7 crore gross worldwide in just seven days and it bagged it the highest first week total for any film released in 2025.

The regional earnings are equally impressive: Karnataka: ₹126.4 crore, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana (APTG): ₹74 crore, Kerala: ₹31.1 crore, Tamil Nadu: ₹33.8 crore, North India: ₹122.4 crore and Overseas (estimated): ₹70 crore

This grand total shows the movie’s unstoppable run across regions. Audiences have showered love on the film for its story and performances.

The film has now become the highest-grossing movie worldwide in its opening week by outperforming big Hollywood titles. It also recorded the third-highest single-

day collection of 2025 behind Rajinikanth’s Coolie Coolie (₹65 crore) and Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG (₹63.75 crore). Kantara Chapter 1 even crossed the opening-day earnings of Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava (₹52 crore) and Saiyaara which previously held the record.

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the film stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram in key roles. The story is set a thousand years before the events of the first Kantara film. After this massive success, a third part titled Kantara Chapter 2 has already been announced.
