Indian cinema started to dream big at the global avenues after the tremendous success of RRR in the international market. It has now reached a point where every other Indian epic is aiming for the Oscars after the epic feat completed by RRR earlier.

Hombale Films is reportedly planning to submit Kantara Chapter 1 for the upcoming Oscars. The studio believes that the film’s strong cultural roots and universal themes give it a solid chance at global recognition.

Directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, the film has already become a massive box office success, earning over ₹700 crore worldwide. Set against the backdrop of coastal Karnataka, it explores ancient traditions, divine beliefs, and human emotion through a gripping mythological narrative.

The movie features Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in important roles, while Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score has been praised for intensifying the film’s spiritual energy. Hombale Films, known for KGF and the original Kantara, reportedly feels that Chapter 1’s visuals, storytelling, and performance quality can connect with international audiences.

If officially submitted, the film could represent India in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. Fans and critics alike are excited about this development, as it would be a rare opportunity for an Indian myth-based film to reach the global stage.

Whether it earns a nomination or not, Kantara Chapter 1 has already strengthened Indian cinema’s reputation for combining tradition with cinematic excellence.
