Tamil star Karthi is once again focusing on the Telugu film market. According to industry buzz, Karthi is expected to act in a straight Telugu film which is likely to go on floors in mid-2026. This project is said to be backed by Sithara Entertainments headed by Naga Vamsi. The film will reportedly be directed by Kalyan Shankar who shot to fame with the youthful hit MAD.

This is not the first time Karthi is working closely with the Telugu industry. Earlier, he acted in Oopiri directed by Vamsi Paidipally. The film turned out to be a big hit. That success is still remembered as one of the best examples of a Tamil hero making a solid impact in Telugu cinema.

However in recent times, Karthi has been facing a rough phase at the box office. His latest Tamil release Vaa Vaathiyaar failed to meet expectations in theatres. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film reached OTT platforms just 14 days after its theatrical release which clearly shows its poor box office performance. The movie is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video in multiple languages, including Telugu.

The film starred Krithi Shetty as the female lead and featured senior actors like Sathyaraj in key roles. Music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan, but even strong technical values could not save the film.

With back-to-back setbacks, Karthi’s decision to return to a straight Telugu film looks like a carefully planned move. Teaming up with a young director and a successful production house may help him bounce back.
