Her performance in Mahanati received huge appreciation from audiences and critics. However success of this film also brought unexpected challenges to her career. The actress recently revealed that she did not receive any new film offers for six months after the release of Mahanati.
Released in 2018, Mahanati was a biographical film based on the life of legendary actress Savitri. Keerthy played the lead role and she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for the film.
Although the movie brought her great recognition, it also changed how filmmakers looked at her. Before Mahanati, Keerthy mostly played simple, girl-next-door characters. After the film's success, directors started looking at her differently. They found it difficult to decide what kind of roles would suit her next.
As a result, Keerthy did not receive new projects for around six months. This was an unexpected situation for an actress who had been busy working on several films.
In a recent interview, Keerthy spoke about this difficult period. She explained that she initially welcomed the break because she had been working continuously for several years. However, she later realised that the gap was affecting her financial stability. Between 2013 and 2018, the actress said she spent most of her time shooting for films. Her daily routine mainly involved working, eating and sleeping. She hardly found time to focus on herself.
The sudden break gave her an opportunity to change this routine. However, the lack of film offers made her understand the importance of managing money and planning for uncertain periods in the film industry.
Meanwhile this words proved that a blockbuster film does not always make a heroine's career safe in the film industry. Keerthy Suresh is a perfect example of this. After the huge success of Mahanati, the film's success did not guarantee a steady flow of new opportunities. She revealed that she did not receive any film offers for six months after the movie's release, and this also affected her financial stability. A successful film can help a hero build a stronger market and attract more projects, while heroines may still struggle to find suitable roles even after delivering a blockbuster.
Meanwhile Keerthy is now preparing for her upcoming Netflix series Akka, which also stars Radhika Apte. Set in the 1980s, the story follows a powerful group of women whose world faces a major threat after the arrival of an outsider. The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 30, 2026.
