A film that worked well on the big screen may not always impress viewers when watched at home. Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya’s Chennai Love Story is now getting a similar response after its digital release.
The movie was released in theatres on July 24 and received mixed opinions from the audience. However, the response at the box office was much better than expected. The film attracted good crowds during its first weekend and continued to perform well in the following days.
Even during the second weekend, the movie managed to bring audiences to theatres. By the end of its theatrical run, it reportedly came close to the Rs. 60 crore gross mark. This gave the film a successful run and strong commercial status.
However, the situation appears to be different after its OTT release on SonyLIV. Many viewers watching the movie digitally are now sharing negative opinions on social media and other platforms. Some are even wondering why the film received such a strong response in theatres.
Theatre audiences generally felt that the first half was entertaining, while the second half was weaker. But OTT viewers appear to be much more critical. Many of them feel that the second half is too slow and does not maintain the interest created in the first half.
The portions involving the hero returning as a spirit after his death have also received criticism. The climax is another part that many digital viewers are not happy with. Some viewers also feel that the movie takes too much time to move forward.
The difference may be because theatres offer a different viewing experience. Songs, visuals, comedy and the audience atmosphere can make certain scenes more enjoyable on the big screen. At home, viewers may focus more on the story and screenplay.
Chennai Love Story has a story written by Sai Rajesh and was directed by Ravi Namburi. Sai Rajesh and SKN produced the movie. Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya played the lead roles.
