Telugu Fans Support Tamil Stars, But Why Is the Love Not Equal?

The relationship between the Telugu and Tamil film industries has always been special. Many Tamil actors have built a huge fan base in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Telugu audiences happily watch dubbed Tamil movies and celebrate stars like Suriya, Vikram, Karthi, Dhanush, and Vijay. Many of their films become successful in Telugu states.

However, the same level of support is not always seen for Telugu movies in Tamil Nadu. Except for a few blockbuster films like Baahubali and Pushpa, most Telugu movies struggle to attract audiences there. Even famous director S.S. Rajamouli's earlier films like Magadheera and Eega did not receive huge success in Tamil Nadu.

Young actor Kiran Abbavaram recently shared his thoughts on this issue while promoting his upcoming movie Chennai Love Story. He said Telugu audiences warmly welcome films from other languages and provide good theatrical support. But Telugu films often do not receive enough theatres in Tamil Nadu.

Kiran gave an example by saying that Tamil movies are released in many theatres across the Telugu states and, if the content is good, audiences make them successful. He believes the same opportunity should be given to Telugu films in Tamil Nadu. According to him, if more Telugu movies are released properly there, actors and filmmakers can build a stronger market.

The actor also shared an interesting conversation with a Tamil distributor. Kiran said he asked why Telugu films do not get enough theatres in Tamil Nadu. The distributor reportedly replied that theatre owners are willing to screen Telugu films, but Tamil audiences usually do not come to watch dubbed Telugu movies. After hearing this honest answer, Kiran said there was nothing more he could argue about.

The discussion has now become a hot topic on social media. Some people agree with Kiran and feel Telugu cinema deserves equal support in neighbouring states. Others believe audience choices cannot be forced and that only strong content can change viewing habits.
