Tamil actor Suriya's upcoming movie Kanguva is carrying the colossal expectations that come with a comparison to Superstar Prabhas's Baahubali. But is Suriya’s upcoming release truly capable of matching that epic? Let’s dive in.

With Kanguva slated for a grand release on November 14, Suriya has hit the road for a whirlwind promotional tour, starting from Mumbai and sweeping through northern cities. Alongside director Siruthai Siva, leading lady Disha Patani, villain Bobby Deol, and music director Devi Sri Prasad, he’s been sharing why this film is set to entertain on a massive scale.

However, the real buzz stems from the excitement of Tamil Nadu's film circles, where Kanguva is being dubbed the 'Baahubali of Kollywood'. Expectations are sky-high, with hopes that Kanguva will shatter records and achieve global recognition. While Siruthai Siva’s recent works have been commercial hits and misses, Gnanavel Raja, the film’s producer, has placed a mountain of trust—and crores of rupees—on this story. There’s even talk that the first part will be so thrilling that it’s making audiences nervous about how much more epic the sequel could be.

But here’s the kicker: comparisons to Baahubali have led others astray before. Vijay’s Puli, packed with VFX and a stellar cast including Sridevi and Kichcha Sudeep, crumbled despite grand ambitions. Then there was Sundar C’s Sanghamitra, a Baahubali-inspired multi-starrer that never saw the light of day. And let’s not forget, Devi Sri Prasad composed the music for both Puli and Kanguva. Coincidence? Maybe. Omen? Let’s hope not.

In the end, if Kanguva can break the “Baahubali curse,” it might just redefine Kollywood’s place in global cinema. Or it could end up being another epic tale... of why you shouldn’t jinx your film with too much VFX and hype.
