Kriti Sanon didn’t sugarcoat her words. At an event where she was named Honorary Ambassador for Gender Equality by UNFPA India, she shifted the spotlight to a problem everyone knows but rarely speaks of, gender bias in Bollywood. She said straight away that heroines are not treated on par with heroes.

According to her, the inequality shows up in the smallest details. Big cars, bigger hotel rooms, and late call times all go to male actors. Actresses are expected to adjust, wait, or arrive earlier on set. Kriti questioned why women should always be the ones making room when respect and facilities should be equal. For her, it’s not just about cars and rooms, but about the attitude that places men above women.

She also connected it to her own home. Her mother once dreamed of learning to swim and dance, but never got the chance. Even then, she fought hard for her education and built a career as a professor. Kriti said that her mother’s fighting spirit shaped her and her sister, giving them freedom without restrictions. That upbringing, she explained, is why she refuses to stay quiet today.

Her closing thought was clear: if change is to happen, it has to start early, inside homes. When families stop telling daughters to wait and sons to take their time, industries like cinema will follow. Kriti’s stand wasn’t about complaining, it was about calling out a culture that hides inequality in plain sight.
