Dhanush Fans Tensed Over Kuberaa Censor Buzz
Kuberaa, Dhanush's second Telugu film, is stirring debate ahead of release, not for the cast or plot, but for its runtime
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 Jun 2025 10:58 AM ISTKuberaa, Dhanush's second Telugu film, is stirring debate ahead of release, not for the cast or plot, but for its runtime. Directed by Sekhar Kammula and starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, the film has wrapped censor formalities and locked in a runtime of just over three hours. That’s sparked tension among fans, especially with the film hitting screens on June 20.
Originally clocked at 3 hours 15 minutes, Kuberaa was trimmed by 14 minutes after feedback from the censor board. It received a U/A certificate, but the duration remains a concern. Recent films with extended runtimes, like Indian 2 and Retro, have struggled to keep audiences engaged. Dhanush fans are hoping the content holds up, because if it doesn’t, the length could backfire.
Despite the runtime chatter, there's a lot going in Kuberaa's favor. Nagarjuna plays a crucial role, Rashmika is the lead, and Devi Sri Prasad is handling music. The trailer raised expectations with its sharp tone and hints of a high-stakes emotional drama. The production scale, led by Asian Cinemas’ Sunil and Ram Mohan Rao, adds weight to the release.
But for fans, it's a wait-and-watch game. Long runtimes can work if the narrative delivers. Dhanush trusts Sekhar Kammula’s direction, and the team believes Kuberaa will click big in both Telugu and Tamil markets. With a few days to go, all eyes are now on whether the film earns its length or gets pulled down by it.
