Lokesh Calls Coolie A Hit: What’s Up?

Talented Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj delivered his weakest film till date in the form of Coolie. But the film still ended up doing 500 crore revenue at the global box office, thanks to the combination value and hype surrounding the same.

Lokesh Kanagaraj recently responded to the criticism faced by Coolie with openness and clarity. He admitted that the film attracted a fair amount of negative feedback and stated that he has taken those opinions seriously.

Lokesh said he would consciously work on correcting the shortcomings highlighted by audiences and critics in his next film, treating the criticism as a learning opportunity rather than a disappointment.

At the same time, he emphasized that despite the mixed reception, the film witnessed massive footfalls mainly because of Rajinikanth sir. Lokesh openly acknowledged the superstar’s unmatched box office pull, revealing that the producer informed him Coolie had collected around ₹500 crores.

According to him, the audience’s love and respect for Rajinikanth sir played a major role in turning the film into a commercial success, irrespective of the criticism. The fact that he labelled the film as a “hit” is an indication of his mindset on the project.

Lokesh also expressed sincere gratitude to YouTubers, meme creators, digital platforms, the media, and the audience for keeping Coolie in constant discussion. He noted that reviews, memes, online debates, and even trolling helped the film stay relevant and visible for a long time. Every form of engagement contributed to its reach.
