One of the crucial things for a Director from this generation to succeed in the film industry is to be in tune with the current trends and understand the root cause of the criticism he faces.

However, many people feel Lokesh Kanagaraj’s recent statement sounds more like excuses than real acceptance of mistakes. Instead of clearly admitting where things went wrong, he seems to explain situations in a way that shifts focus elsewhere. Saying a film like Coolie was profitable or that audiences now expect a certain kind of cinema from him does not fully address the criticism about content and execution.

When a director truly accepts flaws, it usually reflects in their words and actions. Nelson is often cited as a strong contrast here. After Beast received heavy criticism, he openly accepted the backlash.

He did not over explain or defend himself. He stayed quiet, reflected, and returned with Jailer, letting his work do the talking. That approach earned him respect, even from people who were harsh earlier.

Lokesh, however, often frames criticism as a learning phase or as a result of external expectations. Even his explanation about stepping out of the Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan project feels like a justification rather than a clear acceptance of creative limitations. While learning and evolving is important, audiences also look for honesty and accountability.

At this stage of his career, people expect Lokesh to acknowledge missteps directly. Excuses may protect the moment, but long term respect comes from owning mistakes and showing growth through stronger films, not press meet explanations.
