With decades of experience and several iconic roles, she has built a career based on talent. However, her journey was not always smooth, especially during her early years in the film industry.
Recently, Madhuri looked back at a difficult moment from her early career while speaking in an interview. She spoke openly about a controversial kissing scene from her 1988 film Dayavan where she starred opposite Vinod Khanna. At that time, Vinod Khanna was a senior and powerful star while Madhuri was still new to Bollywood.
The scene appeared in the song Aaj Phir Tumpe Pyaar Aaya Hai. Back then, such intimate scenes were very rare in Hindi films. Madhuri admitted that she was not fully aware of how intense the scene would be when she signed the film.
Talking about that experience, she said, "Well, I think it’s a growing process or learning process. You learn something with everything and I learned something from that, too. And after that I was very embarrassed and I decided that this is something that’s not to be done."
The scene reportedly left her deeply upset. She was so uncomfortable that she requested the makers to remove it from the film. Reports say she was even in tears after the shoot. However, the film’s director Feroz Khan decided to keep the scene in the final cut.
It was later revealed that Madhuri was paid extra for the scene but money could not undo the emotional impact it had on her. Vinod Khanna later apologized to her but the incident stayed with her.
After this experience, Madhuri made a firm decision. She chose never to do scenes that made her uncomfortable. This moment became a turning point in her career, helping her set clear boundaries and stand up for herself in an industry where newcomers often feel pressured.
