Without waiting for the dust to settle after Hanu-Man, director Prashanth Varma has kicked off his next ambitious project, Mahakali, with a traditional pooja ceremony. The shoot officially began yesterday, and the update came directly from Prashanth himself via X (formerly Twitter). Along with the news, he shared a fierce poster of the film, calling it “the most brutal superhero in the universe.” That one line is enough to stir curiosity around what’s coming next in the PVCU.

This isn’t just a random follow-up. Mahakali is a significant addition to the Prashanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), which is slowly shaping into one of India’s most creative homegrown superhero franchises. After the phenomenal success of Hanu-Man, expectations from the next chapters have only gotten bigger. Interestingly, Mahakali won’t be helmed by Prashanth directly but by director Pooja Kolluru, bringing a fresh perspective to the world he created.

Mahakali's cultural background is what makes it unique. This new movie is said to examine Bengali customs, spiritual practices, and mythology, in contrast to Hanu-Man, which drew heavily on Andhra folklore. The plot is reportedly rooted in local beliefs and theological depth, demonstrating the filmmakers' strong commitment to realism. It is anticipated to have strong spiritual undertones and symbolism, making it more than simply another action movie.

Strong rumors in the business indicate that Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna would play the villain, even though the primary cast is yet unknown. Although nothing is official yet, there is certainly a lot of anticipation surrounding the casting decisions. Mahakali is positioned to be a darker, more daring entry as the PVCU grows, one that has the potential to completely alter the tone of Indian superhero movies.
