By: Shanaz B Syed | 13 Aug 2026 3:55 PM ISTFor a long time, it’s been discussed widely in film circles that Superstar Mahesh, who is currently doing SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, has no film planned after that. There were names like Anil Ravipudi and other directors heard, but all those makers can cater only to the Telugu market, not anything else. However, finally it is coming out that Mahesh locked three stories, though there is no clarity on which one will take off first.
Apparently, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is the first in the race, as they want to revive the left-off project “Devil” if all things go well. With Vanga recently sharing special birthday wishes for Mahesh Babu, surely this talk has gained momentum. However, Vanga has to wrap “Spirit” and release it by March 2027, so that he can do a film with Mahesh immediately.
The same is the case with Hanu Raghavapudi, who is waiting for Prabhas’ Fauzi to be wrapped and released in the first week of December 2026. Already, this director is said to have narrated a story to Mahesh, which is impressive, but the hero might take a final call only after looking at the output of Fauzi, which is Hanu’s career-biggest movie so far.
Coming to the only other director Mahesh has heard a story from is none other than Venky Atluri. Known for writing different types of subjects that are laced with usual comedy but nice family tropes, this director is said to have narrated a story but hasn’t got any nod yet.
So with three directors in the pipeline, and many others to follow, Mahesh’s next after Rajamouli’s movie just got very interesting.
