What began as whispers and isolated allegations has now triggered a formal industry-wide response. The Malayalam Film Producers Association has rolled out a strict new rule: anyone working on a film actors, crew members, even drivers must sign a no-drug-use affidavit. Its a direct reaction to rising concerns over substance use on sets, voiced by both insiders and observers over the past year.

Actress Sandra Thomas and others had previously raised red flags, some even claiming that specific dr*ug rooms existed on certain shoots. The situation escalated when an actress recently accused a co-actor of misconduct while allegedly under the influence. Add to that the arrest of actor Shine Tom Chacko in a dr*ug-related case, and the producers clearly felt a line had been crossed.

This new measure is not just symbolic. By including everyone on set, from stars to spot boys, the message is clear: no exceptions, no excuses. The affidavit isnt just a formality its a signal that drug use will no longer be brushed aside or dealt with quietly behind the scenes.

With the Amma association expected to address the issue further in its next meeting, the industry seems to be heading toward a reckoning. This time, its not about controlling the narrative its about cleaning up the space before it loses more credibility.
