Malayalam films are usually made on less budget and they collect accordingly. But things changed in recent times. Despite their limited budgets, their movies are making huge money. In 2024, Malayalam films are ruling the roost by creating records at the box office. It started in January and they have been delivering at least one super hit every month till date.

In February, movies like 'Premalu', 'Bramayugam', 'Anveshippin Kandetum' and 'Manjummel Boys' were released. All these movies turned out to be blockbusters. 'Premalu' is a simple love story which got huge collections not just in Kerala but in Telugu states too. 'Manjummel Boys' became an industry hit by earning more than 200 crores and it did good business in Telugu too. 'Aadujeevitham' too crossed the 100 crore mark. Fahadh Fasil's 'Aavesham' too got huge collections and it is appreciated by many.

After their huge box-office success, they have arrived on OTT platforms. However, the audience who witnessed them on streaming sites are giving mixed responses. A lot of people are claiming that movies like 'Manjummel Boys', 'Premalu' and 'Aavesham' are highly overrated. There is a section who claim that 'Premalu' is filled with routine love track and silly comedy. Apparently, 'Aavesham' is a mixture of comedy scenes taken from 'Ooseravelli' and other movies. Though 'Manjummel Boys' is an impressive survival drama, the film got more ratings than it deserves as per a few of them.

People on the internet claim that some of them don't have engaging screenplay while there are few who claim that the makers failed to keep the audience glued. They claim that Malayalam films are getting overrated a lot. There is an argument that hearing a lot of praise for weeks will raise the expectations and the audience are bound to get disappointed when they watch it on OTT platforms with all that hype. What do you think about them?
