Mammootty vs Mohanlal: Who is hero in Patriot?

Mollywood legend Mammootty has shared exciting details about his upcoming film Patriot. The film is directed by Mahesh Narayanan. It brings together Mammootty and Mohanlal once again. This reunion has created strong excitement among fans across South India.

During a recent interaction, Mammootty spoke about the core idea of the film. He was asked about who is the main hero in Patriot. Anchor asked, “In KHxRK promo, Rajinikanth sir and Kamal Haasan sir will be asking the director who is hero, likewise you and Mohanlal sir asked who is the Hero in Patriot.” He said "No We both know that plot is the Hero. There is no such Ego between us Mohanlal will act in my films and I used to act in his films".

Mammootty also explained that Patriot is not a usual star based film. He said the story is the main focus of the movie and believes that the audience will connect more with the content than with the actors. He said "The film actually is driven by its content. It has a story and it has a plot. This is not a film made on formula, it will be a formula making film".

The shooting of the film took around 130 days. It was filmed in different places in India and also in some foreign locations. The story has an international backdrop and deals with serious topics. Mammootty shared that the team hopes such events never happen in real life.

Talking about working again with Mohanlal, Mammootty said everything felt natural. They share a close friendship in real life and their families also have a good relationship. This comfort helped them during the shoot and made the process smooth.

The film also stars Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko, Boban, Nayanthara, Darshana, Rajendran and Revathi. The film is expected to release across India on May 1 2026.
