"Who Is Hero?" Mammootty's Simple Answer Is Wow

Malayalam Superstar Mammootty’s latest film Patriot promotions are getting interesting. As the film features a plethora of stars, including the likes of Mohan Lal, Fahad Fassil, Nayantara, Darshan Rajendra, and veteran actress Revathi, many wonder who the hero of the film is. In one of the interactions, Mammootty was asked this very typical question. “Who is the hero of this film?”

The context itself is fun. Even in the recent promo of director Nelson’s KHxRK, both the Superstars, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, ask the director the same thing. Similarly, Mammootty was also asked the same question now, by the Bollywood media, and his answer is stunning. He said there is no ego between them. Both of them know that the story is the real hero, but not the individuals. He even mentioned how they keep working across films. Mohanlal acted in other films, and Mammootty did cameos with younger actors, and it’s all normal for them.

If you look at Malayalam cinema, this is not new. Films like Lucifer or Bheeshma Parvam are driven more by writing than by hero elevation moments and a combination of heroes. Looks like from what we hear, the film Patriot mainly revolves around two central characters played by Mammootty and Mohanlal, but the narrative is said to include multiple key roles. That means it is more of a content-driven setup than a regular hero vs hero space. Many are expecting even Telugu heroes to do the same, but somehow, here, heroes are more inclined towards single-hero-driven movies.

Patriot is expected to hit screens on May 1st, 2026.
