By: Shanaz B Syed | 23 Dec 2025 5:01 PM ISTSaying that he came across some deeply disappointing comments last night, actor Manchu Manoj stated that a civilised society protects women’s rights instead of policing their choices. In fact, he was referring to the bizarre comments made by senior actor Sivaji last night, it seems, where he stated that heroines should not focus on showcasing their ‘samaan’, but wear a saree to cover up fully and look beautiful.
“This kind of statement is deeply disappointing. Policing women's clothing or placing moral responsibility on them is outdated and unacceptable. Respect and accountability should start with individual behavior, not by shaming women for how they dress. Public figures must speak responsibly, especially when their words influence society. (sic)”, says Manoj, as he underlined that these comments violate articles 14, 15, and 21 of the Constitution of India. “Equality, dignity, and personal liberty are non-negotiable; women's clothing is not up for public judgment,” he further wrote.
Saying that, Manchu Manoj has unequivocally apologized on behalf of the senior actors whose derogatory remarks have demeaned women and reduced them to objects. He further accentuated that “Such words do not represent all men. We cannot, and will not, normalize or ignore this behavior. Women deserve respect, dignity, and equality at all times”. Underlining one last accentuation, he emphasises, “Silence is not an option, and accountability is essential.”
Many are wondering why Manchu Manoj hasn’t directly addressed Shivaji; however, his response is prompt and makes sense in all the right proportions.
