Maruthi's Mixed Bag Comments Not Enthralling Fans
However, fans and cinephiles felt that the statement was unnecessarily dismissive towards other actors and filmmakers.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 2 Jan 2026 12:30 PM ISTDirector Maruthi is leaving no stone unturned to promote his latest directorial, Superstar Prabhas’ The Raja Saab, one of the most awaited films for the Sankranthi 2026 season. While his intent is to project the film as a large-scale one, and confidence in the content, somehow his comments are ending up a little awkward to the fans.
While speaking with a journalist, Maruthi said, Prabhas’ Raja Saab required 3 years of time because he had to write the story in a big way. “If there is any other star involved, you could have wrapped the film like a parcel (Potlam). But with Prabhas there, we should have a solid story, and that takes time to write,” he said, of course highlighting the efforts behind building larger than life story for Raja Saab.
However, fans and cinephiles felt that the statement was unnecessarily dismissive towards other actors and filmmakers. Instead of elevating Prabhas, the comment was seen as undermining the collaborative nature of cinema with his mixed-bag thought process. Because either big star or small star, only content will work, and if films are wrapped like ‘potlam’, they get wrapped at the box office in a similar fashion.
Trolls quickly turned the statement into memes, questioning Maruthi’s own filmography. Though Maruthi made something impressive with Raja Saab, these statements unnecessarily put him on the wrong pedestal.
