'Colors' Swathi who made a mark in Tollywood with movies like 'Asta Chamma', 'Swamy Ra Ra', 'Karthikeya' and many more has stayed away from the industry for a long time. She returned with a musical short film 'Satya' featuring herself and Sai Dharam Tej recently. Now, she is back on the big screen with an interesting movie titled 'Month Of Madhu'. Let us dive into the review straightaway to know more about it.

Story:

Madhusudan (Naveen Chandra) and Lekha (Swathi) were in love with each other and got married. Lekha tolerates all the stubbornness and eccentricities of Madhu. But they decide to get separated after a period and resort to court. In the meanwhile, Madhumati (Shreya Navile) is an NRI who arrives to India along with her mother to attend a marriage. But Madhu's unfiltered behavior causes trouble between her and her mom. How do their stories come together? Will Madhusudan and Lekha get divorced? Why is Madhusudan like this? Will Lekha accept the marriage proposal from her colleague? All these questions will be answered in the movie.

Analysis:

Love stories are eternal and this genre never gets old. Filmmakers make a lot of love stories and its strong connection with the youth is the main reason for it. Though one cannot show freshness in this genre, it is very important for the love stories to be relatable. A lot of directors and writers have showcased love from different angles. But there are some love stories that showcase love after marriage. These movies have a lot of drama and if they work out, the audience are going to connect with the movie instantly. 'Month Of Madhu' is a movie that has some well-written roles that grab your attention at first but the proceedings are so slow that it starts testing your patience.

The movie runs in separate tracks and the constant shift between them creates a bit of confusion at times. As said before, the characters are quite strong in both the tracks but there is no speed in the narration. It need not be rapid but it needs to be compelling enough to hold your attention. It is what the movie lacked and this caused to the audience lose interest in the proceedings. Only Viva Harsha and his scenes come in as a relief during that time. The point that the director Srikanth wanted to deal with is good but he failed to explain the story in an interesting manner that makes you root for the characters. The director gave some life philosophy through some characters and the dialogues during some scenes are pretty meaningful as well.

But 'Month Of Madhu' do not give you satisfaction on the whole. Also, the high urban touch during some parts may or may not go down with everyone. Though the director wrote the characters with many layers, he failed to explore them completely. This film is impressive in bits and pieces but fails to satisfy you on the whole. If you want to watch a mature love story and a slice of life drama with good performances, you can give 'Month Of Madhu' a go but the slow proceedings and lack of gripping dramatic moments makes the film a tedious watch.

Performances:

Naveen Chandra is a reliable actor. He does his part with utmost conviction in every film and did the same for 'Month Of Madhu' as well. Colors Swathi gave her best in the role offered to her. She looked decent on screen and was decent in sentimental scenes as well. Shreya did very well despite this being her debut film. But it is her character that lacks a proper arc. Gnanesvari Kandregula is glamorous while Viva Harsha brought comic relief to this film with his lovely timing. The rest of the actors too did their jobs well.

Technicians:

'Month Of Madhu' is quite good technically. The visuals by Rajeev are attractive. He managed to enhance the mood of the scene with his camera work. The tones he used and the close up shots will surely impress the audience. Achu Rajamani's music has a nice feel to it. Though the songs are not highly successful, they are very situational and his background score tries to elevate the movie as much as it can. The production values are adequate for a film of such a nature. The editing is not that great as there are a lot of times where you feel that the movie needs trimming. Director Srikanth picked up a good story and wrote impactful characters. But what he failed to do is write a screenplay that is captivating enough. The proceedings are quite lethargic at times which makes the audience lose interest a lot at times. The runtime was a big minus as well.

Verdict: 'Month Of Madhu' - Good Point But Not Compelling Enough!

Rating: 2/5
