Talk:'So Many Drafts' Is Not Selling Films

In recent times, many are wondering if filmmakers are promoting their films in the right direction. Because we have seen the criticism faced by Chennai Love Story after the makers called it ‘cult bomma’ and the film hasn’t lived up to those expectations. And now, director Venky Atluri joins this gang, saying that he has written 9 drafts and 3 climaxes for Suriya’s Viswanath & Sons, as he’s teaming up with such a big star.

Guess what, the job of writers and filmmakers is to write a good script, or a script they believe that it doesn’t have any loopholes and has a watertight screenplay. To achieve that, they need to write several drafts for sure, but then marketing the same film by saying that they wrote more than 100 drafts will not work. If we look at SS Rajamouli, the director is known for getting his writing team to put up more than 3-4 ideas for the same scene, but he never markets the film saying that they wrote the story well or wrote so many drafts. Because that won’t create interest in the film.

In recent times, many filmmakers who stated that they wrote more than 10 drafts to impress the hero or to make sure that a good script would come out have actually met a disastrous fate at the box office. Simply put, ‘so many drafts’ are not going to sell the film, but only a good draft will make it work at the box office.
