'Mr & Mrs Mahi' Misses Soul & Emotions Despite Good Performances!
Produced by Dharma Productions banner, the movie has its share of plus points but lacks in emotions and suffers from predictability.
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 Jun 2024 1:07 PM GMTSupremely talented actor Rajkumar Rao and actress Janhvi Kapoor have come together for 'Mr & Mrs Mahi'. It is a sports drama with a romantic touch. The trailer and songs impressed everyone prior to the release. Produced by Dharma Productions banner, the movie has its share of plus points but lacks in emotions and suffers from predictability.
Going into the story, Mahindra (Rajkumar Rao) is a failed cricketer who gets constantly reminded of his failure by his father. He works in a sports shop and gets into an arranged marriage with Mahima Agarwal (Janhvi Kapoor). They both share a common interest which is cricket. Also, Mahima marries Mahindra even after knowing about his failure story. Mahima is a doctor but has natural talent in cricket. Observing this, Mahindra starts to coach Mahima and wishes to fulfill his dream of becoming a cricketer through his wife. What happens after that? How will their relationship get affected because of their decisions? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.
'Mr & Mrs Mahi' partly works because of the performances of lead actors. Rajkumar and Janhvi work well as a pair. They did brilliantly in their roles. Kumud Mishra, Rajesh Sharma and Zarina Wahab too did complete justice through their roles. The camera work is quite good though the sepia tint is a bit too much. The songs are quite good and the production values are adequate from Karan Johar. There are many scenes in the movie that gets saved by the performances of Rajkumar Rao and Janhvi. Rajkumar Rao plays a very complex character and he has done a fantastic job.
The first half is quite good as we connect with the typical middle class life of a man who gives up his dreams due to parental pressure. The blooming love story between the couple too works well making it a compelling watch. The first half sails smoothly but things start to go down in the second half. The cricket scenes were not well-picturized as they had a lot of cuts. The screenplay becomes way too predictable. After a point, you fail to resonate with the characters and the emotion goes missing. Sharan Sharma as a director fails to make an impact. The VFX work is quite weak and the dialogues are quite ordinary as well.
With most of the movie's story and screenplay pattern getting revealed in the trailer itself, the surprise factor went completely missing. Despite very good performances, the movie doesn't move you like 'Jersey' or 'Dhoni' or other sports dramas. 'Mr & Mrs Mahi' is a boring and weak sports drama that is saved to an extent by good performances.
