When Is 'Shiva' Getting A Re-Release?

It is an undeniable fact that 'Shiva' is a trendsetter. It was a game-changer for Telugu cinema and filmmakers talk about it even today. People cannot forget the sensation a debut director like Ram Gopal Varma created with a young hero like Nagarjuna at that time. The movie came back in 1989 and it is termed as a classic. The gangster drama is shown in film schools as a reference point even today. Ten years back, the team celebrated the 25 years anniversary and they announced a re-release of the film. But it did not happen till date.

During the promotion of his latest film 'Vyuham', RGV was asked about the re-release of 'Shiva'. He stated that the 4K work has been wrapped up but the time of release is in the hands of Annapurna Studios. But we cannot see it happening anytime soon. In the past two years, the re-release trend has become too popular. 'Manmadhudu' which was re-released a few months back got a huge response. But 'Shiva' is an entirely different entity. It arrived 35 years back and the experience it gave the youngsters at that time cannot be recreated.

Youngsters these days are habituated to televisions, phones and OTT platforms. 'Shiva' arrived way before all these became part of our lives. 'Shiva' is created a euphoria in theatres at that time. Raghuvaran's villainy, Ilayaraja's music, the stunning re-recording, Gopal Reddy's unique cinematography, RGV's direction and a whole lot of talent on display made the film quite special. People who experienced it at that time can write books about this movie. This is the movie that strengthened the bond of Nagarjuna and his wife Amala before they got married. There is a talk that the film's negative is due for some repairs. We need to see if 'Shiva' arrives anytime soon or not.
