OTT Recommendation: Good, But Couldve Been Better!

By: Tupaki Desk | 12 July 2025 7:06 PM ISTThe OTT space has been rather high and dry with lack of multiple new options in the recent times. In this context, we have an interesting film in the form of Narivetta. This is the Telugu dubbed version of the Malayalam film Anweshippin Kandethum, based on real-life incidents from the 2003 Muthanga tribal agitation in Kerala.
The story follows Varghese, a young and sincere police constable played by Tovino Thomas. Initially a passive and obedient officer, Vargheses perspective changes when he witnesses the brutal treatment of tribal people fighting for their land and rights. What starts as a routine police posting turns into a moral battle for justice and truth.
Tovino delivers a strong performance, effectively showing the inner conflict of a man torn between duty and conscience. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Tamil actor Cheran add depth to the narrative. The film tackles serious themes like police brutality, systemic injustice, and the oppression of marginalized communities.
Technically, the film is solid. The cinematography captures the forest landscapes beautifully, while Jakes Bejoys music adds emotional weight. However, the slow-paced first half and unnecessary romantic subplot drag the narrative at times.
Despite its flaws, Narivetta stands out for its bold subject and emotional core. Its a socially relevant thriller that speaks up for the unheard. Material issue is that the social drama could have been much better with the more compact narrative and presentation in terms of visual finesse.
