Is Nelson Better Than Lokesh In That Aspect?
Incidentally, one of the few directors to actually tap into this side of Rajinikanth was Nelson Dilip Kumar.
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 Aug 2025 9:24 AM ISTIt is an accepted fact that superstar Rajinikanth has the most amount of aura for any Indian actor, and this got established multiple times in the past with his impeccable timing and screen presence. Incidentally, one of the few directors to actually tap into this side of Rajinikanth was Nelson Dilip Kumar.
The kind of mannerisms that were displayed by Rajinikanth in Jailer under the direction of Nelson are pretty extraordinary and they generated a lot of momentum for the film at the box office.
The film did not have any extra extravagant CG shots or computer generated output but entirely on the aura and mass screen presence of Rajinikanth, which was explored to the fullest by Nelson. The kind of mass cinema making and short selection that Nelson had for the Rajinikanth film worked out brilliantly.
Not only did Rajinikanth get a strong role in the film, he could also get the platform to display his unique mannerisms and unrelenting aura in this film. He carried the film entirely on his shoulders, and he did that with great ease as well.
But on the other hand, Lokesh Kanagaraj could not extract this super energetic or aura side from Rajinikanth with his latest film Coolie. There are very few moments in the film that Rajinikanth was provided with the opportunity to absolutely explore on the screen.
The writing was very shallow, and the scope for performance was also pretty weak in this film, so Rajinikanth himself could not do too much about it.
Having one of the most enigmatic performers in Indian cinema and failing to extract this trademark energy from him is a clear mistake from the Director and he needs to seriously consider his working style. Social media users are commenting that Nelson did a better job at extracting this side of Rajinikanth when compared to Lokesh.
