Another Bad Experience: Is Netflix Losing OTT Edge?

Netflix has been the leading OTT platform in India for the last few years as they have been extensively buying big hero films and giving them adequate OTT releases. But it appears that Netflix is falling behind in the game due to their lack of collective approach and let us have a look into the same.

The digital version of Dhurandhar feels surprisingly bland. The colour grading looks dull and flat, and the visual energy that defined the theatrical experience is clearly missing. Anyone who did not watch the film on the big screen might even feel it is overrated.

In theatres, the scale hits you from the very first scene. The visuals are rich, the frames feel larger than life, and the sound design pulls you into the world of the film. That impact simply does not translate to the OTT version, where the vibrance feels muted and restrained.

This is not the first time such an issue has come up. A similar complaint was widely discussed during the digital release of Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal.

The theatrical cut felt raw, powerful and visually intense, but the OTT version lost a bit of that punch. Now, with Dhurandhar facing the same problem, the pattern is becoming hard to ignore.

It increasingly appears that Netflix is slipping in the OTT game due to a lack of proactive approach. Big theatrical films demand careful handling when they move to digital platforms.

Without proper attention to colour grading, sound mixing and presentation, the core experience suffers. If this continues, audiences may slowly lose trust in how big films are treated after their theatrical run.

It appears that Netflix is falling behind in this OTT game as they are not running actively for uncut versions, which is becoming a major cause of concern. It has to be seen if the leading platform would take certain measures to better the output and come up with better results in the future.
