New Movies – Old Titles: The Latest Trend!

Title is the first thing people notice about a film. It helps in attracting people towards the theatres and generate buzz prior to the release. A catchy title will make it easy for the public to talk about the movie all the time. This is why the movie makers brainstorm a lot before fixing on a title. They try their best to come up with a title that suits the story as well as sound catchy. We can understand the importance of a title when Rajamouli converted the working title as a movie title for 'RRR'.

Sometimes, a good film with quality content and huge budget may fail to reach the audience due to the lack of a proper title. That is why a crisp and catchy title is a must for every movie. A few directors and producers are preferring pure Telugu titles while people who make pan-Indian films mix Telugu and English to have a universal appeal. There are a few filmmakers who are not risking heavily and going for the movie names that have already been used before.

We have seen Rajnikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's upcoming movie being titled 'Coolie'. The powerful title announcement teaser got a huge response and it is the same title in all the languages. In 1991, Venkatesh made 'Coolie' under Raghavendra Rao's direction while Govindha made 'Coolie' in 1995 in Hindi. Prior to all this Amitabh made 'Coolie' back in 1983. Varun Dhawan recently arrived with 'Coolie No. 1' and it ended as a disaster.

Lokesh's previous films too had old Telugu movie titles. Nagarjuna's debut movie was 'Vikram' and Lokesh used the same title for Kamal Haasan's blockbuster flick. 'Khaidi' is the name of Chiranjeevi's iconic film and he named it for his movie with Karthi. 'Master' too was Megastar's film before Lokesh used it for Vijay's action drama. Now, 'Coolie' will arrive in 2025.

Recently, Priyadarshi and Nabha Natesh announced a movie together and it is named 'Darling'. It is the name of Prabhas' super hit romantic comedy which was released back in 2010. There is a movie with the same name in Kannada as well and Alia Bhatt acted in a movie titled 'Darlings' recently. EVV Satyanarayana's super hit film 'Aa Okkati Adakku' is watched even today. Now, the same title is used for EVV's son Allari Naresh's upcoming release.

Nara Rohit is arriving with 'Sundarakanda' and it is used already back in 1992 in Tamil while it was remade with the same name in Telugu with Venkatesh as the lead. Bapu too made 'Sundarakanda' in 2008 with Charmi as the heroine. 'Sabari' is a movie releasing on 3rd May and Vijaykanth made a Tamil film already with this title. Dhanush and Sekhar Kammula are making a movie together. It is named 'Kubera' and a Kannada film arrived with the same name back in 1999.

Prabhas is arriving in June with 'Kalki 2898 AD' and Nag Ashwin is directing it. Interestingly, senior hero Rajasekhar did a movie with Prasanth Varma in 2019 and the movie's name is 'Kalki'. In 1996, legendary Balachandar made 'Kalki'. Names like 'Tenant' and 'Tantra' were used before. Adivi Sesh made 'Goodachari' and many films arrived with a similar title. Sesh is now making the second part of this film.

Thalapathy Vijay is making GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) under Venkat Prabhu's direction. Sudigaali Sudheer is also making a movie with the same name. There is a Hollywood film with the same title as well. Ajay Devgn did 'Bhagat Singh' and Pawan Kalyan is now making 'Ustaad Bhagat Singh'. Akhil's next movie is 'Dheera' as per sources and we know many films with similar titles. Before Prasanth Varma's 'Hanu-Man', the animated movie 'Hanuman' arrived in the 2000s. The list is quite long!
